Window Cleaning Terms and Conditions (UK Guide + Checklist)

Good terms aren't legal armour — they're the answer to every awkward doorstep conversation, written down once.

Your terms and conditions exist to prevent arguments, not to win them. For a window cleaning round, six clauses cover almost every dispute that actually happens: access, cancellation notice, payment terms, weather, damage and price reviews. Keep them short enough that a customer will read them.

1. Access

State that gates and side access need to be unlocked on the cleaning day, that you'll clean everything reachable, and what happens if access is blocked — usually the front is cleaned and charged pro rata, or the visit is rescheduled to the next cycle.

2. Cancellations and skipped cleans

  • Ask for 24–48 hours' notice to skip a clean.
  • Say what happens on repeated skips — most cleaners remove the customer from the round after two or three.
  • Make clear that a skipped visit doesn't reset the price for the next one after a longer gap.

3. Payment terms

Say when payment is due (on the day is standard), which methods you accept, and what happens if it isn't paid — a reminder, then a pause on future visits. Direct debit or card on file removes most of this problem entirely.

The clause that saves the most time

A simple line that regular prices assume regular cleaning: after an extended gap, the next clean may be quoted as a first clean. It ends the 'but you normally charge £20' conversation before it starts.

4. Weather and rescheduling

Explain that light rain doesn't affect pure-water results, that you may reschedule in high winds or ice for safety, and that you'll message when the round moves. It reduces both complaints and no-access visits.

5. Damage, defects and existing conditions

Note that you'll report pre-existing damage — failed seals, rotten frames, loose sills, cracked glass — rather than clean around it, and that you're insured. Photograph anything questionable before you touch it.

6. Price reviews

Say that prices are reviewed annually and that you'll give notice in writing. Customers accept an expected increase; they resent a surprise one.

Where to put them

On your website, linked from your quote, and referenced in the welcome message to a new customer. When your site quotes automatically, the terms travel with the price — so every customer joins the round already knowing how you work.
