How Many Customers Do You Need for a Full Window Cleaning Round?

Two cleaners on the same income can be 200 customers apart. Here's the maths that tells you which number you're aiming at.

Long street of British terraced houses with a window cleaning van parked mid-round

A full-time one-van window cleaning round in the UK usually holds 250–450 regular customers on a 4-weekly cycle, or 500–800 on an 8-weekly cycle. The wide range is entirely explained by three inputs: your average price, how many houses you clean in a day, and how tight the round is geographically.

The formula

Customers needed = houses you can clean per day × working days in your cycle. On a 4-weekly cycle with 20 working days, cleaning 18 houses a day means a full round is about 360 customers.

Worked examples

  • Tight urban round, 4-weekly, 25 houses/day, £20 average: ~500 customers, roughly £10,000 a month.
  • Mixed suburban round, 4-weekly, 18 houses/day, £24 average: ~360 customers, roughly £8,600 a month.
  • Rural round, 8-weekly, 14 houses/day, £30 average: ~560 customers, roughly £8,400 a month.
Density beats price

Adding £2 to every clean is a raise. Removing 20 minutes of driving from every day is a bigger one — and it costs nothing.

Allow for churn

Rounds lose customers constantly: moves, money, someone cheaper, a bad month. Budget 10–20% annual churn and keep adding even when you feel full, or the round quietly shrinks while you're not looking.

Signs you're full — and what to do next

  1. You're working past 5pm to finish the cycle: raise prices before you hire.
  2. You're turning away work in the same postcodes: that's a second van's round forming.
  3. You're driving more than you're cleaning: cull or re-price the outliers.

The bottleneck nobody counts

Most cleaners hit an admin ceiling before a physical one. Quoting, chasing and rescheduling can consume an evening a week. Letting your website quote for you removes the ceiling — new customers join the round while you're on it.
