You can quote most domestic window cleaning jobs accurately on the phone in under three minutes with six questions: address, property type, number of storeys, extensions or conservatory, access, and how often they want it. Ask them in that order, give one clear price, then ask for the date.

The six questions

  1. What's the address? — postcode tells you travel, street tells you house type.
  2. Is it terraced, semi, detached or a bungalow?
  3. How many storeys, and any dormers or Velux windows?
  4. Any conservatory, extension, patio doors or bi-folds?
  5. Is there gated side access, and is it usually unlocked?
  6. How often would you like it — every 4 weeks, 8 weeks, or a one-off?

Giving the price

State one number, then what it includes, then stop talking. 'That's £24 every four weeks, and that covers all the glass, frames, sills and the front door.' Don't offer a range — a range invites the customer to pick the bottom of it.

If they hesitate

Don't drop the price. Offer the frequency instead: 'I can do it 8-weekly at £29 if you'd rather spread it out.' You keep your rate and they keep control.

Handling the awkward ones

  • One-offs: price at 40–60% above the regular rate and say why — first cleans take longer.
  • 'Can you just do the front?': quote it, but note it's rarely worth the stop unless you're already on the street.
  • 'What does the last cleaner charge?': answer with what's included, not with a discount.
  • Unclear property: book a look on your way past rather than guessing low.

The close

Never end with 'let me know'. End with a date: 'I'm on your street Tuesday — shall I put you in?' Then send a confirmation message with the price, the date and your terms while you're still parked.

The calls you'll never take

Most enquiries arrive while you're up a pole, and the majority of homeowners book whoever replies first. Letting your website ask these same six questions and price the job automatically means you win the ones you'd otherwise miss — and the phone rings only for the awkward properties.
